Birth control prices are doubling or even tripling on college campuses.
Drug companies used to give discounts to colleges, but this has changed due to new policies in Medicaid legislation.
Now, some college girls are paying over twice the amount for birth control than they had previously paid.
I say big deal.
If you can't afford it or don't want the risks involved with sex, keep it in your pants. It's not a difficult concept.
Since the College Democrats are willing to hand out free condoms and lubricated jelly in the guise of Valentine's Day cards, then why not see if the Republicans or student ministries will give out birth control and other contraceptives. Hint: that was sarcasm.
In a day and age when promiscuity is respected and sexual prowess is considered an art form that everyone is trying to master, we all know the dangers and ramifications of sex.
Still, I'm always amazed at those girls and guys who, upon finding out they are pregnant or have an STD, say, "How did this happen?"
The high schools teach abstinence as the only true form of birth control, but apparently their messages are not strong enough. Remember, children, that type of birth control is free.
Free of guilt. Free of regret. Free of consequences.
I don't think it is too much to expect college students to pay the same price for the same product as others elsewhere in the world.
As a part of the exclusive, non-sexed population of college attendees, I kind of giggle at this dilemma facing my comrades because I know the solution.
Get yourself in a situation of exclusiveness with your partner, i.e. marriage, and then give your parents grandbabies. No one will fault you for that. As for the STDs, there are tests available for those willing to keep their health as a priority.
In general, when it comes to the rising cost of birth control, get over it.
Did you stop using gas or going places when gas prices escalated? No. You needed the gas.
You need the birth control, and you'll find a way to get it. I believe in you.
